General Contractor:
Engineering Firm: Schardine & Associates Bettendorf, IA
Description:
The installation of a larger air conditioning unit on an existing foundation proved to be more than the foundation could support. The concrete columns began to sink with the additional weight. We were called by the engineer to review his plan to support the columns with A.B. Chance piers. They also wanted to know if we could install the piers in such a restricted area. We installed two A.B. Chance SS5 8-10-12 piers with H.D. lifting brackets per column. There was a total of two columns. The piers were driven to a depth of 33 feet.

Anchor Contractor: Midwest Reconstruction Co., Davenport, Ia
General Contractor: C70 Builders - Minneappolis, MN

The project was an arch at the outlet mall entrance. The project engineer found that A.B. Chance was the only solution that was feasible and gave the uplift capacity as well as the necessary lateral support for the arch. The arch will span four lanes of traffic, and the uplift and lateral support was needed for wind sheer. Four A.B. Chance ss200 8-10-12 with an 8" grouted micropile was installed on each side at the entrance with custom designed brackets. The piers were installed to a depth of 45 feet with only the top 20" being a micropile. Each pier was installed using a 200 kip drive head and was installed to achieve a 100 kip capacity.
